Editor's Corner

Welcome Back!

It's been nearly 18 months since you've received a newsletter from Zigon Performance Group (and last week's offer to unsubscribe doesn't count!). We're back to a regular schedule of publication giving you a combination of recent articles I've found on the web with my commentary, as well as original pieces.

This issue's articles address pay for performance, performance appraisal and 360-degree assessments. The most interesting article to me is the first one which found that you get more bang for your buck from a tight relationship between pay and performance all year long, versus giving a once a year performance bonus.

Recent Performance Management Articles

Each issue of the ZPG PM Newsletter will give you links to recent articles on the web which address performance appraisal, performance management or performance measurement. Here's three you might find as interesting as I did:

Using Your Pay System to Improve Employees' Performance: How You Pay Makes a Difference
Michael C. Sturman, Ph.D.
Pay for performance does a better job of motivating employee performance than once-a-year bonuses. (PDF 1.4Mb).

Performance appraisals get low marks
Chicago Tribune - United States
It doesn't matter whether you are the reviewer or the person being reviewed. Chances are, performance appraisals are not anywhere on your list of reasons you look forward to coming to work.

Think 360 Degrees
Gorkhapatra - Kathmandu,Nepal
When done properly, the 360-degree assessment is a powerful tool for helping individuals improve, grow and develop their interpersonal skills.
