Custom Performance Management System -- General Dynamics/Fort
Worth
GD, a Texas-based defense contractor needed
to redesign their performance management system.
ZPG helped them create customized
training materials addressing
performance measurement, feedback and rewarding and placed two on-site
trainers to
train 2,000 supervisors in performance management
over a two-year period. The project resulted in $1.3
million in documented cost savings and performance improvements,
earning the project managers a special performance award from General
Dynamics Corporate for their efforts.
Custom Performance Management System -- Yellow Freight System
YFS, an Overland Park, Kansas-based, less-than-truckload
freight carrier needed to resolve a lack of communication
between the corporate office and field freight terminals. While
performance direction and feedback was being communicated clearly
down to the terminal level, the information was not getting to
the managers, supervisors and employees within the terminal. ZPG
helped YFS design a new performance management
system which included forms, procedures, custom
print and video training programs in performance measurement, negotiating
performance standards, giving feedback, interpersonal skills, performance
troubleshooting, coaching, and non-financial rewarding. ZPG also
conducted trainer training to allow YFS
to deliver and followup the system at a regional level. System-wide
implementation resulted in $20.8 million in
documented cost savings and performance improvements for
20% of the 600+ terminals involved. The total results were projected
to be much higher, but those that could be documented represented
a 20:1 return on the program's investment in
18 months.
HR Balanced Scorecard -- Fleur de Lait
ZPG helped the US Division of this worldwide
food manufacturer create
a Balanced Scorecard for the Regional and Plant level HR function.
The existing HR measures were evaluated, and new ones constructed
to measure both results and programs HR was delivering to line management.
Reports were created both for HR internal use as well as reporting
to the President of the division. Fleur de Lait plans to expand the
use of the scorecard to the rest of the Division.
Performance Management System Design and Installation -- American
Family Insurance
AFI, the US' fourth largest insurance company, needed a new
performance management system to help realign the organization and provide a
basis for a
new pay-for-performance
system.
ZPG worked closely with a cross functional project team to assess the current system, design a new system, create new forms and procedures,
create custom print and video training programs in performance
measurement, feedback, interpersonal skills, coaching, non-financial
rewards and
pay-for-performance. ZPG also conducted trainer
training to allow
AFI
to implement and maintain the system with minimal outside assistance.
System-wide implementation went off on-schedule and within budget
and achieved the project objectives.
Intranet Performance Measurement Training -- James Hardie Construction
JHC, a Pacific-rim building construction materials
company needed
a way to train hundreds of managers in how to measure performance as
part of the implementation of their new performance
management system.
ZPG assisted by helping JHC install GoalTutor on their intranet as
a way of providing 24x7, just-in-time training in performance measurement.
Implementation was on-schedule and within budget and achieved their
project objectives.
Customized Performance Measures and Job Aid - Denso Manufacturing
Denso, a Michigan-based subsidiary of a Japanese automobile
parts manufacturer needed a way to improve the objectivity
of the goals in
their performance
management system. ZPG helped them simultaneously train
50 managers in performance measurement, while creating 50 sets of company-specific
performance measures to be used as examples for hundreds of other
employees. These Denso-specific measures were added to the 8,000+ measures
in
ZPG's QuickMeasures. Denso employees were given internet
access to
this job aid as a way to create more objective performance goals
by borrowing and modifying the examples they found in QuickMeasures.
Implementation
was ahead of schedule and on-budget and helped them improve the overall
quality of the goals in their performance management system.
Custom Self-Paced Performance Management Training Guide -- Los Alamos
National Labs
Los Alamos Labs is a New Mexico-based federal
research and development facility charged with keeping the US' nuclear stockpile safe. They
needed to improve the quality of the performance
objectives being
set for for their R&D personnel as they changed their mission
from creating nuclear weapons to maintaining the weapons and selling
their
scientific services to the private sector. ZPG worked with scientists
to define organization-specific performance
measures for their
scientific and administrative work and build this into a self-paced
training manual/job
aid. The materials were used to train scientists and managers.
The project was completed on-schedule and within budget and proved
helpful
in improving the quality of the objectives written.
Team Performance Measurement -- McNeil Consumer Products and Pfizer
Both McNeil and Pfizer had teams for which they needed performance
measures. Both organizations wanted to measure
the performance of both the entire team as well as the individuals
on the team. ZPG worked with each organization to train
managers and representative team members in team
performance measurement techniques. These trained-trainers in turn
educated the team members, who then set team and individual performance
goals for their teams. The goals were used for both performance
management
and pay-for-performance decisions. The projects were completed
on-schedule and within budget and helped distribute team pay based
on objective
performance data for the first time.
Intranet Performance Measurement Training -- Pinnacle West Corporation
PWC, a Phoenix, AZ-based utility and holding
company needed a way to train thousands of managers in
how to measure performance as part
of the implementation of their new performance management system.
ZPG assisted by helping PWC install GoalTutor on
their intranet as a way of providing 24x7, just-in-time training
in performance measurement. Implementation was on-schedule and
within budget and achieved their project objectives.
